Year 10 Problem Solving: Mathematics and Science (10PRS)

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs S. de Vos

Problem Solving is made up of the core curriculum areas of:

  • Mathematics
  • Science

Students will be engaged in thinking creatively and critically to solve problems and model situations.

Topics may include:

  • Navigation
  • Electrical engineering
  • Projectile motion

This course will explicitly develop the college Capabilities of:

  • Critical Thinking – apply critical and analytical thought processes to address a range of real-world applications of problem-solving.

Thinking critically is fundamental to exploring and understanding science and solving problems. Using both mathematical and scientific methods students will explore and solve problems that will strengthen their ability to think and see problems critically.

  • Self Management – build resilience, leadership, and initiative.

Developing students' self-management through solving complex problems in science and mathematics builds resilience and initiative as students find different ways to understand problems and find solutions.
