Dear students, parents, and caregivers,
13MAS is a Year 13 course for Mathematics with Statistics designed to further develop and enhance students' statistical inquiry skills. This course would ensure that students are well-equipped with the statistical knowledge that is required for further education and career pathways. The use of technology and statistical software provides students with the relevant capabilities for a successful career in any statistics related profession. Since the course is interactive and requires collaboration, it develops students' critical thinking and problem solving capabilities as well.
Being a combination of Internals and Externals, the course is well balanced in terms of report writing and probability based assessments. Students will be offered the opportunity to gain a total of 16 credits, consisting of 12 credits internally and 4 credits externally. The course also offers an opportunity for subject endorsement. and is a UE approved course.
Term 1
AS 91583 Experiments - Internal (4 credits) - Assessment scheduled for Term 1, week 6-7. This is a report based open book assessment which students will have a week to work on.
Term 2
AS 91582 Formal Inference - Internal (4 credits) - Assessment scheduled for Term 2, week 3. This is a report based open book assessment which students will have a week to work on.
AS 91580 Time Series - Internal (4 credits) - Assessment scheduled for Term 2, week 9. This is a open book video presentation assessment which students will have a week to work on.
AS 91586 Probability Distributions (OPTIONAL) - External (4 credits). Students who choose to do this optional standard will be given resources needed to start learning the content. Time will be offered during school hours for students to get extra help.
Term 3
AS 91585 Probability Concepts - External (4 credits) - Practice Assessment scheduled for Term 3, week 7. This is done under test conditions and is a 1 hour test.
AS 91586 Probability Distributions (OPTIONAL) - External (4 credits) - Students doing this optional standard will have a derived grade exam during the school exams in Week 7/8, Term 3.
School Mock exams will be conducted in Term 3, week 9. Please note that further assessment opportunities will not be offered for the internal assessment because of time constraints around allocating an week during the year for each internal further assessment.
Term 4
Students will receive feedback regarding their derived grade exams and they will continue to prepare for the external examinations related to the following standards/topics:

AS 91586 Probability Distributions (OPTIONAL) - External (4 credits)
There is a $40.50 course fee that covers NZGrapher, resources and worksheets.
Students must have the Nulake AS91585 booklet (Level 3) for practice of external standards that can be ordered through Office max. Workbooks for all internal standards are recommended.
All student who choose to do the optional AS91586 probability distributions standard should also have Nulake AS91586 booklet.
OPTIONAL - Students can subscribe for Education Perfect (a digital learning platform) and get access to range of lessons, practice tasks, practice assessments as well as past external papers.
Students MUST have their own Scientific/Graphics calculator (recommended by NZQA), 1E5 Quad books, pen and chromebook.
