Pre-requisitesMust have successfully completed Y12 BCP. HOD approval is required.
This course is for those students who want to enter the trades and develop these specific skills.
Priority is given to those students who have taken PDT/BCP at level 2.
Priority is given to those students who have achieved more credits in these courses (PDT/BCP) previously at level 2.
This course covers basic knowledge of construction, cabinet making, furniture construction and wood turning. Most important are standards which are applicable to industry such as applying mathematical processes and communication. Standards are all from the BCITO.
The Level 3 unit standards do not specify particular projects. Instead, a project’s suitability is determined by its complexity and the ability to meet unit standards’ outcomes at Level 3. This provides flexibility for students (and teachers) to choose projects according to their interests and circumstances.
A Stage 3 BCATS project is one undertaken in a BCATS environment under limited supervision, using a broad range of tools, equipment, machinery and materials, and involving a range of standard processes.
All standards are internally assessed.
All projects will be taken home with students.Course costs are $350. Some specialised items may need to be brought in. This will cover the cost of most materials and consumables. Please be aware, these are course costs, not donations, as the students directly benefit from the materials and take home the final products they create. Students will complete a selection of NCEA standards depending on their skill sets and passions. They will work towards a minimum of 14 credits.
