12 credits in Level 1 Science, from either 11SCI, 11SCS, 11FPS, 11SSC.

Environmental Studies combines science and social science to explore environmental issues and empower students to take meaningful action for a sustainable future. We will unpack the four pillars of sustainability; environmental, social, economic, and cultural, and upskill on methods of data collection and recording. Students will then choose to work individually or in small groups a local and global environmental issue important to them, driven by them.

The aim of this course is to empower students to take both personal action and engage in local democratic processes, developing capabilities in global leadership, critical thinking, collaboration and communication. Environmental studies draws on level 2 Education for Sustainability standards and Science standards. This course is ideal for students motivated in practicing kaitiakitanga, developing environmental stewardship, and career pathways in environmental sciences/management.
