Year 11 Sport Mathematics (11SMA)

Course Description

11SMA offers students a mathematics course that aligns with their individual interests and goals. This course, similar to 11MATE, focuses on enhancing mathematical proficiency and incorporates core numeracy strategies. 11SMA provides students with options to tailor their learning experience, allowing them to choose from three pathways: 

(1) pursuing two internal and two external achievement standards, 

(2) opting for two internal  and one external achievement standard, or 

(3) focusing solely on two internal achievement standards. 

Regardless of the chosen pathway, successful completion of 11SMA ensures students not only enhance their mathematical proficiency but also attain thorough preparation for the numeracy corequisite assessment, equipping them with essential skills for future academic pursuits.

Course Overview

Term 1
As there are new NCEA Level One Standards for 2024, this will be planned later this year.

Term 2
As there are new NCEA Level One Standards for 2024, this will be planned later this year.

Term 3
As there are new NCEA Level One Standards for 2024, this will be planned later this year.

Term 4
Exam revision for the end of the year exam

Pre-requisites

Students are placed in the appropriate year 11 maths course based on the results of their topic tests, end-of-year exam and e-asTTle results from year 10.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

There is a $40 course fee that covers NZGrapher, online subscriptions and worksheets.
Optional - 1) It is recommended that students have the Nulake/Walker math workbooks for practice of both internal and external standards ($68)
which can be ordered via the school office.
2) Students can subscribe for Education Perfect ($26) - a digital learning platform - and get access to range of lessons, practice tasks, practice
assessments.
Students MUST have their own Scientific/Graphics calculator (recommended by NZQA) and 1E5 Quad books.
