13PES

Year 13 Physical Education (13PES)

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr J. Kumate.

This course intends to develop students' abilities to analyse and critique a range of topics in Physical Education. This is achieved through a combination of theoretical and practical lessons. Topics include: risk and safety management, lifelong participation in physical activity, practical performance, and issues in sport.

This course will be an advantage to those students who intend to go onto study a UE course as 13PES offers accredited Achievement Standards for UE entrance. This is a full time year long course of four periods a week, working towards NZQA Achievement Standards. Achievement Standard PE3.2 is offered as an optional additional self-directed standard in Term 4 for those wanting to gain UE entrance but who have not gained the requisite 14 credits.

Pre-requisites

Students must gain a minimum of 14 credits from 12PES. Approval for entry must be obtained from HOD Physical Education.

For students who have not studied the subject before approval as above must be obtained from the HOD Physical Education and will be based on the student’s academic ability in Year 12.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

$180 to cover two external trips (including transport), the use of Howick Squash facilities and own racket.
