Year 12 Physical Education Studies (12PES)
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr J. Kumate.
The aim of this course is to deepen student understanding within a broad range of topics in Physical Education. This is achieved through a combination of theoretical and practical lessons. Topics that students will learn about include: anatomy, biomechanics, exercise physiology, methods of training, practical performance, critiquing the social impacts of sporting events, and risk management. This course is recommended for those who intent to study Level Three NCEA Physical Education, those who want to follow a UE pathway, or for those who may wish to follow a career in fitness, recreation, or health/sport related occupations.
Pre-requisites
Students must gain a minimum of 14 credits from 11PES, 11OPES or 11SDE. Approval for entry must be obtained from HOD of Physical Education.
For students who have not studied the subject before, approval as above must be obtained from the HOD of Physical Education and will be based on the student’s academic ability and reported studentship in Year 11.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
$160 to cover costs of a range of activities: Whitewater Rafting trip, Badminton equipment and coach, Les Mills fitness sessions and transport costs.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
Total Credits Available: 18 credits.
