Course Description

Studying business enables students to appreciate the issues that challenge businesses and stakeholders.  In a rapidly changing world it is important that citizens are able to make informed and rational decisions about business matters.  Group work, work ethic and commitment are characteristics required by students.

Students doing this course will run a business in the community and all profits will be donated to a community organisation.

This course leads to a range of possible careers:

  • Students often cater for school events and they can open their own business after school in Food Technology
  • Performing Arts students regularly stage events that require marketing, budgeting and money handling
  • Plumbers, electricians, mechanics etc. need business skills to run their own enterprises.

Term 1
AS90848 - 2.6 Carry out, review and refine a business activity within a community context with guidance.
AS90846 - 2.4 Conduct market research for a new or existing product.

Term 2
Two market days
Finish Business Plan
AS91865 - 2.7 Demonstrate understanding of future proofing influences that affect business viability.

Term 3
AS90843 - 2.1 Demonstrate understanding of the internal operations of a large business.

Revision

Pre-requisites

Pass both the internals for Level 1 Commerce (10 credits).

Students that did not have Commerce as a subject should at least have 14 credits in Maths and 14 credits in English.
