Year 12 English Internal (12ENGI)

Course Description

12ENGI will focus on equipping students with the necessary English skills to achieve at Level 2.  This course offers 14 to 17 credits from Internal Achievement Standards as well as two Communication Skills Unit Standards. The option of completing the Writing standard (AS 2.4) which offers writing credits for UE literacy will depend on student interest and desired pathway in conjunction with teacher discretion. Students in this course who wish to go to University may need to look to other subjects for  Reading and/or Writing credits required for University Entrance or take 13ENGI  the following year.  They should discuss this with their English teacher.

Students wishing to attend Auckland University may need to gain the balance of credits from a Level 3 English course in the following year in order to gain the full 17 English credits required by that institution.  

Note:  This is an internal assessment course and students taking this course will need to have good attendance and be able to meet all deadlines.  

Course Overview

Term 1
In term one students will be focusing on research and report writing. Students will be identifying an issue in the community which they will investigate. They will be learning how to carry out and structure an investigation into an identified problem. This assignment will develop time management, critical thinking, problem solving and presentation skills.

US3492 Write a short report: 3 credits
US1037 Speak to a known audience in a predictable situation: 3 credits
AS 2.10 Analyse aspects of visual texts through close viewing and listening supported by evidence

Term 2
In term 2 Students will revisit learning competencies as they learn to develop their own learning. They will also develop their information literacy and research skills as they explore relevant issues that they encounter in their studies.
They will complete the following Achievement Standard.
AS 2.8 Use information Literacy Skills to form developed conclusion(s) 4 credits

Term 3
Students will explore a range of texts. The standard on which they will be assessed is
A.S. 91104 v2 English 2.7 - Analyse significant connections across texts, supported by evidence

Pre-requisites

Students must have achieved Level 1 literacy.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

$5 for learning material.
