Year 11 History (11HIS)
Course Description
Teacher in Charge:
This course explores how historians engage in finding out about the past. We analyse how and why change has occurred in human societies over time. An appreciation of the past allows a more thorough understanding of the present. History teaches analytical skills applicable to a range of occupations and research and communication skills transportable to most jobs.
This pathway provides students with knowledge and skills that are relevant for a wide range of occupations such as law, journalism, the media, politics, human resources, research, nursing, primary, secondary and tertiary teaching, medicine, management and many other careers.
Year 11 History will focus on the theme of Tāngata, Mana, Tūrangawaewae: People, Power, Place, exploring the following topics:
- Concepts and Connections: 20th Century History
- Power to the People: The 1975 Māori Land March, Bastion Point Occupation, Dawn Raids and Polynesian Panthers
People Power: Significant historical figures
Who has Power: The 1981 Springbok Tour
Power from the People: Hitler's rise to power
Pre-requisites
An interest in learning about the past and connecting it to our current world.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
Total Credits Available: 20 credits.
