Year 10 Health Education (10HEA)

Course Description

In Year 10 students undertake a compulsory programme of study in Health and Physical Education. Students study Health and Physical Education for four periods per week throughout the year.

 Two periods are allocated to Health and two allocated to Physical Education.


Topics covered in Health include:

  • Mental Health - Students are taught about topics such as Hauora/well-being, bullying, resiliency, depression, anxiety, and strategies to help. 
  • Drug Education - Students are guided through a program highlighting the dangers and pressures of drug use and abuse. Drugs covered include Alcohol, Tobacco, Vaping, Cannabis, Methamphetamine and Ecstasy. Students are taught about risky situations and assertive behaviours to maintain safety.
  • Sexuality Education - Students will cover a range of topics through the use of a resource called Navigating the Journey. Topics include gender identity, pubertal changes, diversity, consent, the reproductive system and process and maintaining safe sexual practices.
  • Good nutrition is our mission - A unit based around nutrition, fad diets, portion size, nutritional planning, reading food labels, takeaway foods and the effects of sugar.
